• A Flurry of Fleury

Well, my Fleury score arrived yesterday! I took it to church and played through a couple of the piece. I tink I'ma gonna like dis! I'm going to work on #1 for a postlude early in the New Year.I'm also going to work on the #23. It's beautiful. Hope they sound good on my organ! 4 weeks and counting until it's back in. Then another 2 or 3 to settle the voicing!!! Christmas Eve will be grand. Thanks SB32 for bringing this composer to my attention! Anyone else play his works?

Yes, the B minor Toccata. Wonderful work, terrific postlude!

Just to confirm ... you are talking about the book of 24 Preludes?

No. 24 is probably the most famous of the set - an exciting Toccata. [edit] Oh I see Jason beat me to it this time!

Did you also order the CD of these pieces, recorded by Frédéric Blanc? I recommend it. [:)]

Yes I got the 24 preludes, and the CD is on my short list now. Maybe Santa would oblige early?

I play the Deuxieme Symphonie. The third movement is rather tedious, but the rest is very exciting and incredibly well-written.

            Hmmm....

I'm partial to this composer - I've explored his 1st Symphonie, 2 P+F as well as several other works.

A lot of his music is finger-twistingly difficult, but it is worth the work...

            Best,

Fleury wrote an intriguing piece called Le Glas (the tolling bell, the death knell), which I recently played at a Halloween concert. I've also performed it at some rather'intriguing' venues. [8-|]
