Re: Maurice Duruflé: Prelude from Suite, Op. 5
.....I'd LOVE to hear you playing this work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sent a pvt ;)
I'm looking for MIDI file only..I purchased the Latry version on the organ at Notre Dame and have the Buffalo OHS version as well...this particular work I think would sound marvelous on my home pipe organ so I'm looking for the MIDI sequence (can be just 2 manual and pedal or more but at least a 3 division sequence). :)
Re: Maurice Duruflé: Prelude from Suite, Op. 5
Sorry I misunderstood your request for a MIDI file. [:S]

By the way... one of the best interpretations of the Duruflé Prelude, Sicilienne, and Toccata is by Louis Robilliard on the wonderful Cavaillé-Coll at St-Sernan in Toulouse. It is a hair-raising performance on a hair-raising organ!

As far as my humble efforts [:$] I've left you a PM...

Re: Maurice Duruflé: Prelude from Suite, Op. 5
SB32, you're holding out on us! Can I get a copy of that too? And indeed, the Toccata if you have it lying around...

I have so many complete Duruflé discs now it's not even funny, but I still haven't found one that I truly love. Latry comes pretty close, but I must check out the Robillard.

Re: Maurice Duruflé: Prelude from Suite, Op. 5
Thanks SB. I look forward to listening to it!

The Toccata isn't in my repertoire either (nor any other Duruflé[:'(] ) but by the look of it, it's not going to make it INTO my repertoire anytime soon...

OK Simon, you twisted my arm. [:D]

I worry that I'm wearing out my welcome posting these recordings. [*-)]

On the other hand, it is good to know there are two or three classical organ lovers still on this forum! [6]

You can download the file from this website - it is a 13MB mp3 file.

I tried to remove some of the boomy bass, but I don't think I fixed it enough; you'll probably have to turn the bass down.

Apologies too, for the popping noises in the 2nd half. I think my original disk has got some problems unfortunately.

A few notes appear which are not in the score - let's say they were in the spirit of 'improvisation'.

The Sicilienne and Toccata are not in my repertoire. I hope to remedy that, one day.

Maestro SB32,

I found your Durufle *Prelude* excellently interpreted. You are not wearing out your welcome with your recordings - Please feel free to share at anytime your gems of musical interpretation - It is such an inspiration to hear your artistry.
May I add, that is a great sounding instrument. Where was it recorded may I ask?
Thanks... I'll refrain from saying exactly where it was recorded, butI willsaythat it is a notable Aeolian-Skinner. [:)]
Re: Maurice Duruflé: Prelude from Suite, Op. 5
Well, after listening to your recording Soubby, I can see some of what NYCFarmboy sees in the piece. I still find it a bit Debussey-ish (in the style of Afternoon of a Fawn) for my preference, but that was a very nice and focused recording.
Re: Maurice Duruflé: Prelude from Suite, Op. 5
Hi !

I've listened to your recording this morning and I found it really great. The only one recording I have of this piece is on the Olivier Latry's CD (Duruflé's complete organ works played at St-Etienne du Mont). In my opinion, Latry's interpretation is the best, particularly for the famous Toccata which sounds so great.

But I have to say that your interpretation is trully wonderfull. You played it a bit more slowly and then, we can enjoy every note of this piece ! I listened to other people playing this piece in concert ... and to fast ! So, I enjoyed listening to you, and I'm envious of your talent and the organ you played (wonderful reeds) !

How lovely. Isn't it wonderful when a well designed, built and installed instrument is played by a talented and sensitive artist? That's MUSIC! Thank You.
