I am playing at a little kids' Purim service at a Temple. They are singing (during the service) several Jewish words to the tunes of more popular songs. One of these is "Twist and Shout" by the Beetles

They have a pianist to accompany for the actual service, but they wanted organ prelude/postlude. So I am going to improvise on Twist and Shout during part of the prelude. Any suggestions for this type of improv??? The whole piece is basically alternating between Dmaj, Gmaj, and A maj7 chords. After I play through the melody, I want to improvise a little for some variety.

You could take the tune and transform it with every repetition. Use counterpoint, juxtaposition, changes in genre, fugal devices, descants. You could also take fragments of the tune and extemporize on only the fragment. You could also gradually fragment the tune with every repetition and and end up with a whole new set of tunes. The derived tunes can be used as juxtaposing elements, or simultaneous descants with the original. You could also use other tunes utilized the service to further integrate inside your improv, even just small snippets of recognizable motifs.
