  • Hymns, Chants, Pieces for Corpus Christi

I did this last week and I got a lot of great suggestions and got to hear some great music too (thank you, everyone). So, I thought that I would do it again this week as we approach the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus (Corpus Christi). I know that this is not celebrated by most churches, but we'll see what is posted. Anyways, hymns, chants, and pieces that are generally associated with the Eucharist are greatly appreciated. Also, I am looking for a reharmonization of Hydrofol (not too crazy, though). On Sunday, I will post what I play at Mass and I encourage others to do the same (even if it isn't Corpus Christi themed). And if you're really bored or really interested in what Corpus Christi is you can watch this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW4FZhVORYw Thanks in advance!!!

    Philip,

I don't know if it's a re-harmonization, but Paul Manz has an arrangement of this piece in (I believe) Volume 1 of his 10-volume series published originally by Concordia. It is rather light and playful, though, depending on how you register it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzqNSSWXaUE OR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzoexsUtbaQ).

Another, more difficult setting can be found in a compilation of 3 Preludes on Welsh Hymn Tunes by Ralph Vaughn-Williams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR0-c3VWbQg. Hopefully, you can find something there.

Is Break Thou Bread of Life's tune Bread of Life? If so, do you have sheet music?

I don't often use someone else's harmonizations but I occasionally make an exception for those of Edward Bairstow. I think this one is fantastic, but the hymn needs to be taken at a steady pace (hymns were much slower then (1941). I thought you might like to see it, but sadly I don't think it will be any use to you as the tune is not always in the top part.

Some things I have THOUGHT of: Panis Angelicus, Pange Lingua, Alleluia Sing to Jesus(?), Lord, Who At Thy First Eucharist, Jesus My Lord My God My All, and Break Thou Bread of Life. Suggestions are still welcomed, of course.

Offertory: Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All (39:00)
Communion: Adoro te Devote (with terrible timing:embarrassed: and TWO AMENS!;-)) (54:00)
