  • Help Identify This Piece - Japanese, mid 80s

Does anyone recognise this piece? It had a grand introduction and various bridge sections but this is the only part I remember well enough to put into notation.

    https://musescore.com/user/13815846/scores/3395856

I heard it in a 1987 organ show, based around Yamaha organs, so it could be a piece that came out of that world as I've had blank faces from any jazz web forums I've posted it on so far.

    Thanks,

That link doesn't work. It says that the score is unavailable.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Not one that I've ever heard - I bet Andy will know it though....

Afraid not. It almost sounds like a jazzy improvisation on a basic chord sequence to me. Sorry!

Okay so this was a while ago (and the piece from even longer ago!) but I found a recording of it: https://soundcloud.com/user-133289935/japanese-piece

(a little shaky but it was performed by a very nervous 16-year-old)

This was 1987, and at the time I thought one of the people on the show did all the backing tracks and registrations for the Yamaha HX-1 pieces, but now I'm thinking that you could probably buy arrangements on disk for some tunes, for people (I guess mainly pro performers) to play along with. Is that the case, and is there a list anywhere of the backing tracks/registrations that were available for the HX-1?

If it helps, some other tunes performed included American Patrol, Baby Elephant Walk, probably Phantom Of The Opera (everyone seemed to play it back then) and another Japanese piece called Cant Beetle.

Still no idea what it is, as it still just sounds like a jazzy improvisation!
