Can anyone identify the tune / band on the Kingsford Charcoal TV commercial, the one that pans across a gridlocked highway overpass where for some unexplained reason everyone has a portable grill and a bag of charcoal handy and has decided to grill out. Oh, and a band complete with a Hammond player and some mysterious power source. Well nobody ever said TV ads had to make sense.

Anyway, the tune starts out with the lowest, growliest, bowl looseningest (well, if you crank a decent home theatre up loud enough, anyway!) Hammond note in history. It's so low, I've noticed you can't even hear it on cheaper TV's.

I badly want to know how to get that sound. I've tried everything I can think of using an A100 with a 145, but suspect it requires a goosed up 122 to get it.

    Any suggestions?

I found out that the song is "Speechless" by Colin James. I downloaded it from iTunes, but unfortunately it's a different cut. Still a very, very tasty tune, the band is tight as all get out, but it doesn't have that particular Hammond sound I was looking for.

You can hear the TV commercial cut at:

It doesn't really do the sound justice, but if you have a decent subwoofer, you may hear that growl I'm talking about.

I'd suggest getting a bass guitar. Just
listened to the YouTube clip, and it's a 5- or 6-string bass playing
that line. Sorry it couldn't be the organ!

      Hope that helps.

I think we're talking about different lines. The first base guitar note isn't until about 11 seconds in. What I'm hearing starts at the beginning, albeit almost inaudible unless you have the volume pretty well cranked. You can hear one clear Hammond base note, but I'm hearing another one underneath. You then get a much better hit of it around 24 to 26 seconds in.

I can come close to the sound I'm talking about with a foot-to-the-floor, 88000000 with the Leslie's Big Knob cranked all the way, and obviously slow speed. Maybe if I stuck a dirty set of tubes in it might come closer. But I'd swear there's a tone on that particular recording almost an octave lower than I can get!

        Have another listen.

Have you tried doubling with the 16' pedal?
