• Lost blind organist??

It was in the late 70's or early 80's that I became aware of an theater organistnamed "Candi" or "Candy". I thought she had a great future but lost track of her.

Anyone know what happened to heror might remember her full name?? I wouldn't mind owning an album if there are any about.

    Thanks,

Candi Carley (not sure on the spelling) I saw her in New York, at the Riviera Theatre in N. Tonawanda, back in the late '80's. Awesome performer!

Candi Carley. I have heard her, she is good. That was some years ago and I don't remember where.

As said above, her name is Candi Carley, now Candi Carley-Roth. She is on the organist listing at Atos.org, so I'd guess she is still active, at least on occasion. The listing says she's in Pennsylvania.

I heard her a number of times when she was still living at home in SoCal, playing at "The Great American Wind Machine", a pizza parlor with Wurlitzer in Reseda, CA.

She had a driving swing-based style, influenced by folks like Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, etc. VERY exciting listening!

In addition to playing, she sometimes would accompany herself singing... I much preferred the voices of the Wurlitzer.

She made three theatre-organ albums that I know of, each of which I have a copy... Would LOVE to digitalize them, don't have the equipment or the money to acquire such at the moment.

Haven't heard any of the music on the albums in years, except for one track... I found "I Got Rhythm" by Candi in an archive at
http://www.musicnostalgia.com in the "Hot Pipes" show archive.

I apologize for re-opening a dead thread, but i was looking into my mom's organist career to see where she had done concerts before I was born, and outside what I already know, and came across this.

For those wondering, she is doing well.

After I was born in Dec. of '94, she started doing less concerts so she could take care of me while my dad worked (which was a tall order since I'm ADHD), eventually becoming a church organist, which she currently does (happily I may add) at a small start-up mixed-denomination church in the back of a firehouse in Bristol, PA.

Her last concert was in 2010 at The Sanfilippo Foundation in Chicago, Illinois.

After going through AA about 2-3 years ago (she developed a drinking problem about 5 years ago after being forced to resign from a church organist position by a racist church pastor who has since been fired), she dedicated herself to God, and usually (like 95% of the time) refuses to play anything that isn't Christian music. Whatever makes here happy though.

I myself never got into organ or piano, but I used to play cello until giving that up due to the rental costs, and the fact I couldn't play any modern music my friends were interested in. I'm currently at that stage in my life where I don't know what to do with myself...whether it be to work on and drive cars (my favorite hobbies) or to follow my mom loosely into the music industry as a DJ. Whatever it is I want to do with my life, I'll figure it out eventually.

We still live at the same address in Trevose, PA that we did 20 years ago.

Feel free to throw me an email- [email protected] and have a great day :)

                      Gabriel,

Thank you for the update on your mother's career and recent activities. Evidently, she is quite the organist, though I've never heard her. You should be proud of her and her accomplishments (as I'm sure you are).

                      Thanks again.

                      Michael
