    Berj Zamkochian

Sadly, Mr. Zamkochian has become a famous organist of the past, having reportedly passed away on February 23, 2004. One of the very first organ recordings that I fell in love with when I was decades younger was the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony recording with Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony, Berj Zamkochian, organist. I also possessed a blue vinyl LP from the Gregorian Institute, featuring Berj playing the Mendelssohn Sonata #1 at St Joseph's Cathedral in Hartford, Conn. His performance of that piece was very similar to that of Virgil Fox. The Austin Organ at St. Joseph's is one of my alltime favorites. Requiescat in pace.
