My tracker organ is having a few problems, that I would like to fix on my own without the cost of a technician.
The 16' Principal on the pedal is acting the strangest... first of all when I activate the stop (tab), the "motor" doesn't move all the way on the push-rod. I am not sure if that's the right terminology, so to describe: when you push a tab, there is a cylinder-shaped object in the chamber that moves from one side to another across a metal rod. Sometimes I suspect the rod gets dry? or something with the weather makes the cylinder sticky, and not go all the way across. I can move it manually, but then if I take the stop off, and put it back on, it only comes on halfway again.
However there are more problems which seems to do with airflow.. when I manually move the motor over, it helped the lower third of the pedal board (from the lowest C up till B, a major seventh) but the rest of it sounded two octaves higher!!! The lower tones are not present in the rest of the keyboard. I cannot for the life of me figure it out...
I crawled up into the chamber and felt lots of air coming out of the pedal wind chamber, so I opened it up and saw that a wooden stop-plank with a velvet-lined top, which seems to stop the trackers from opening too far, had fallen loose. I re-attached it, and the trackers were able to close again but still the problem was not solved.
Can anyone give tips on how this could be addressed?
Also, I typically spray silicone on the push-rods if the motors (cylinders) get sticky. Is this advised? The other sticky one is the Principal 8' on the great, which is annoying because you have to put the ladder in the front of the organ in order to reach the motor.
Thanks!
