Please could someone in UK tell me about the magnificent looking organ in Dover Town Hall? The last report dated 1997 says that an electronic is in use but a recent BBC broadcast (not musical) had a shot of the organ on the platform. It looks too good to be out of use.Perhaps someone knows if or why an electronic was or is in use.
I'm not anti-electronic as I play one at my church and have a 3-man electronic at home.

As reported by The National Pipe Organ Register the instrument is a 51 stop, 4-manual Norman & Beard from 1907 modified in 1938 by Hill, Norman & Beard. The report is from 1974 and it lists the organ as 'unuseable'. The initial search pagestates that an electronic instrument was in use as of 1997.
The dover.uk.com webpage has this 2007articledetailing the beginnings of a plan to restore the organ.
This 2008postingon the Mander forum is interesting as it mentionsthe inconvenience of hooking up the moveable console. Usually moveable consoles are a convenience unless they are very, very old.
Thanks for your email. Some years ago when I had the responsibility of the dual-console organ in Southampton Guildhall we had much the same problem. The two consoles were eventually mounted in the hall, either side of the pros arch and some 1M off the floor. The plug boards at the rear of the consoles were cleaned up and permanently connected; so we had no further trouble in the years that I was employed by the council. I believe the organ has had a much needed overhaul and presumably the contacts have all been cleaned again.
Do you know any details of the electronic that is, or was, in use in the Dover Town Hall?
