There is this pipe organ that I have to play next week, and I was given a page with the specifications of the organ (I haven't seen it!) so it calls the manuals the Great and the Positive but I always perceived the positive as being the Choir manual not the swell but I have never known an organ to not have a swell manual so is the positive the same as the swell in this case. Below are a list of the specifications. Also. from the list below could you tell me which manual is the great - the upper or lower? I am guessing Lower?
Upper Manual
Spitzflute
8'
Rohrflute
4'
Fifteenth
2'
Lower Manual
Open Diapason
8'
Stopped Diapason
8'
Principal
4'
Gemshorn
2'
Mixture
III - IV
Trumpet
8'
Pedal
Bourdon
16'
Couplers (Foot Activated)
Pedal-Lower, Pedal-Upper, Lower to Upper
And another question is about the coupler Lower-Upper ...should that not be Upper-Lower or is there such thing as an organ that has a Lower to Upper coupler? Because I have to play a piece that requires me to go from bottom manual to the top manual while the Swell-Great Coupler is on but by the looks of that info the coupler is Lower to Upper which in my opinion translates as Great to Swell if the Swell is the bottom manual which means on this organ I should be going from Top to bottom!
Also, it says this as well: "The instrument, which consists of 10 stops spread over two manuals and pedals, is housed in a mahogany case with the two manual departments disposed vertically, the Great being above the Positive, and the pedal pipes flanking either sided of the soundboards." Does the fact it says "the Great being above the Positive" mean that the actual great manual is above the positive or is it just referring to the pipes?! Thanks for any advice! I am seriously freaking out here and I won't be able to contact my teacher before next week! :-)
