  • Sticking Ocatave Coupler

Last week i was playing the Church organ and the Octave Coupler Stop stuck. ie: When i pulled it out a note was held down . Apparently i have to close stop and open and close it again to clear it .

But i am now reluctant to use it at all . Does it have anything to do with the way i play the organ ie: just wondering if it is due to holding notes down when pulling it out or vice versa?

(Haven't had a chance to try it out , but am playing again tomorrow so will probably try once on easy piece)

Depends what sort of action the organ is. If its electric, then there is a fault somewhere which needs to be traced. If it is a mechanical action, then something might be out of allignment.

It's mechanical , our priest has the organ serviced by chap who comes down to Chippenham from Worcester . Any way it wasworking fine last 2 Sundays so confidence back for now in using it

With mechanical organs it's going to be a physical fault. If it's been resolved it could well have been something small jammed inside the instrument like a very small pot of jam or a bit of ceiling.

I could live with a sticky octave coupler, or at least think of worse things.

Might be the result of the humidity in the church changing. Perhaps the heats was too high for too long.
