  • Moller Pipe Organ, Mason & Hamlin, Estey and a G.A. Prescott & Son Melodeon

My aunt has two organs and a melodeon that she wants to sell and doesn't know how much to ask.

Moller Pipe Organ, 1897, full pedal board with bench in good condition and working order.

    Melodeon around 1840, rosewood - G.A. Prescott & Son.

Mason & Hamlin Cabinet Reed Organ, 1860, carved walnut - two manuals, one of the reeds she says is a 16 foot - low sound? Four sets of reeds.

All are inside her house an in working order.

I think this post would get more exposure in one of the forums devoted to buying and selling.

I believe there have been multiple threads on this topic already posted. There is a merged thread in the 'What is it Worth' sub forum.

      To the OP:

Starting additional posts is unlikely to get you a faster response. I know you have been asking about this for several weeks. Try to be patient. This is a small and vibrant community, and some members who are very knowledgeable and helpful seem to take a while to get around. You can always update the original thread with new information, thus "bumping" it to the top of the list. That will get you the same visibility as a new post. Also, recognize that there may not be many members who feel comfortable appraising the values of these items over the internet, or perhaps there is just not enough information available yet.

On the upside, based on age, these are pretty specific items, and you say they all are in working order. They are likely worth something, but you may have to get an actual antique musical instrument appraiser to view them in person if you want a solid number (assuming there is one).

On the other hand, I have been checking eBay and Craigslist for about a year now, and asking prices for similar items are all over the map. The most truthful response to your inquiry is that they are worth whatever someone is willing to pay. There may be a market for these, but I see similar items that have been for sale on craigslist for quite some time, so I think the market is limited to collectors and museums. I don't know if these are museum quality. If you have any additional information on the provenance of these instruments, it may boost the value and interest, and may make them museum worthy (if they were owned by someone famous, or used in a famous setting, for instance). Full specs (i.e. number/type of ranks, etc.) would also help with valuation.

      Just my 2 cents. :-B
