I have recently "rescued" a 3 manual Hunter and Son reed organ. Upon researching the instrument, i came to realize that Hunter made pipe organs exclusively. I am only left to assume that this "treadle powered" pump reed organ must be a practice organ, since there are none others that are to be found in databases or on the internet. So my only request at this point is to assist in dating the instrument. The label above the keyboard, which has the manufacturers name, also includes the address: 2 old market st. and Staple Hill. I wasnt able to find any information of Hunter and Son using this location. Does anyone have any more extensive research on this company? Thanks in advance. Blaine Rodgers

I consulted "Historic Organs of New South Wales" by Graeme D. Rushworth, and the very detailed article on Alfred Hunter and Son mentions a few addresses for the family business, with the implication that this was all. There is no suggestion of 2 Old Market St or Staple Hill. Also no suggestion of reed organs being made.
Perhaps another Hunter?
