  • When a piano costs more than a pipe organ

I was reading a report on the recent NAMM show in CA. One of the items reported on was a grand piano that is 12' 2". It costs $600,000. What can $600,000 buy in a new pipe organ?

Quite a bit. Roughly anything from a II/20 to a good sized three manual depending on the action type.

I thought as much. And as much as I enjoy a great grand piano, unless I was dripping with money, I would rather have a good Steinway, Bosendorfer, or Fazioli, and spend the rest on a good pipe organ.

By the way, the 12" 2" piano is a Rubenstein.

I would build a pipe organ with a grand piano stop. [Y]
