  • Swell pedal travel

I am collecting bits to build a Hauptwerk based digital church organ (I know this is a pipe organ forum - but I thought I might get a wider response if I posted here).  I have just bought the last component on my list in the form of three used swell pedals, I've been looking around for these for a long time. I am a bit concerned because these seem to have an extremely short travel on all three of these pedals, at an estimate between 30-50 degrees. Although I play church organ regularly and have played many different organs in my time, I'm struggling to work out whether this is normal or acceptable.  Does the AGO standard specify a travel distance for swell pedals?  What is generally considered acceptable?

    Thanks,

    James

AGO standards only cover the location of expression shoes relative to the pedalboard.

A range of motion of 30 degrees is typical.
