The LG organ will be getting an update, it was announced today.
"We have noted an increasing interest in water parks and water-related activities," said Hames Jers, CEO of Longwood."Meanwhile, interest in horticulture has declined, along with attendance at Longwood Gardens. We felt it necessary to change with the times."
He went on to state that the famous ballroom would be changed to the "world's largest indoor swimming pool." "We were assured that the organ could be made waterproof, so we are going to do this. In fact just this morning I signed a contract with 'Joe's waterproofing and catering' (the low bidder per regulations) to completely waterproof the organ console, mechanisms, and all pipework. They assure me of a perfect job. It's just a shame to do this right after a multimillion $ rebuilding of the organ, but these things happen. And Joe's is only charging us $159.99"
Longwood will now be able to boast of the world's only underwater pipe organ, a fact they will no doubt aggressively publicize.
"There's only one downside," said Jers. "All the staff organists immediately tendered their resignations, and we've had trouble replacing them. It seems that many organists are worry-warts, and they're concerned about getting electrical shocks from the console. How ridiculous!" He went on to say that the minimum-wage staff organist job will be advertised nationally.
Work is to be completed by April 31, 2020.
