  • What should my church do with this Rodgers organ?

We've got this big electronic organ that was essentially installed when our Sanctuary was built in 1972. I'm not an organist but the paperwork I found says that it is a model 440 LDM, but I can't seem to find that model anywhere. It does look a whole lot like this one except the sides are smooth.(http://www.rodgers550.com/Rodgers660/index.html). It is a 3-manual with a pedalboard and it has a whole bunch of knobs and switches. What I do know is we haven't had an organist in years and this thing gets played probably once a year. On top of that, it's taking up valuable space that could be used by other people that are involved in our service every week.

I can get pictures up soon, but I would say that it's like 5 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet. How heavy is this thing? What would we have to do move it at least out of our sanctuary?

I don't know what kind of demand there is for 1970's organs nowadays but I assume we would be lucky to get any money out of it after having it moved, correct?

a suggestion would be to find a local area church in need of a organ and see about donating it to them?

If to be sold, it really depends on what model it is, what year it was built, and whether it has drawknobs or stoptabs. (Drawknobs are pulled, stoptabs are depressed to operate the various sounds). A 3 manual drawknob organ is worth something..anything else is going to be a challenge to sell.
