  • Nantes cathedral on fire, organ damaged

Apparently there was a fire in Nantes cathedral (France) and the organ was damaged - might even be a total loss according to France Info.

This is so sad. You can go to the link below for information about the Clicquot organ. Apparently the fire started near the organ and arson is suspected. The organ is a complete loss.

France is undergoing social collapse Many church fires, over 200. Organ was a Cliquot restyled, from one U tube vid it sounds like a large scaled reed cornet in the pedal. Beautiful French case. With all the wars and revolutions probably most of the original pipes are in a cannon somewhere.

This is as per Reuters via Yahoo news.

"Prosecutor Pierre Sennes told journalists three fires had been started at the site and authorities were treating the incident as a criminal act. He gave no other details. Dozens of firefighters brought the blaze under control after several hours. Smoke was still coming out of the Gothic structure after massive flames earlier engulfed the inside. The blaze came just over a year after a major fire at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, which destroyed its roof and main spire."

How unfortunate! Some of the pipes dated to 1619, and now no longer exist. It's a shame to lose such an historical treasure.:'(
