I've got a lot of side wiggle in some of my pedals and I'm suspecting new felt bushings are what is required, but I have no idea what kind of felt to get where, and how to apply it. Or get the old felt out for that matter.

What type of organ, Liz? Different brands used slightly different techniques.

On their AGO pedalboards, Klann used an oval shaped rod guide pin which can be rotated to tighten the lateral play. Take a look and see if yours has that. Might be a simple matter of rotating your pins. They are located at the console end of the pedals.

Aha, they are indeed like that, and it helps, but there is still some wiggle. If they are loose enough to move easily, they twist and bind if I put too much side pressure on instead of pressing straight down - and I was under the impression one is always supposed to approach them from one side or the other, not the rounded top.

I wonder if I can do something from the back - there is only one screw there since they have the springs at the front. The pedals at my church have bar springs at the back with two screws, which makes the alignment steadier although not as cushy feeling.

I'm pretty sure that over the years Klann changed the design of their pedalboards somewhat. Perhaps some were customized for different builders preferences ? I have had two here in the last couple of years, and one of them had the flat spring steel plates on the back end of each pedal. The other had a big wound wire scissor type spring under the front third of each pedal. The wire type was on a 1933 Kilgen console; the flat type is on a 1973 Lowrey.

The Lowrey one has the adjustable pins as described. The one on the Kilgen had the flattened pins too, but they were screwed onto the frame at both ends, so not adjustable.

Photos attached are of the Klann Pedalboard on the 73 Lowrey.

You can contact Klann--I'm sure they know what to do and have parts and supplies available.
