I lived in nyc 10 years and never once stepped foot inside. :(

I will most definately be going the next time I'm back in the city.

Hell, I just hope to see it! I've been to NYC several times but never got the chance to visit the cathedral. I will try the next time I'm ever out that way.

I was there in early June 2005 and this is what it looked like then:

I don't know if the organ can truly be said to be restored at this time--it has been cleaned but the pipes are not yet back in place, according to the article.

Even as an uncompleted building (no transepts) the space inside is awe-inspiring.

    Yes this is amazing news.

The last time I saw the cathedral it looked pretty nasty to be honest. And unfortunately the organ was unplayable at the time.

I can't wait to hear the organ now that it has been restored.

i have played the great organ several times and the last time i got a round of applause from the tourists that were listening below

it is in my estimation the greatest instrument by gdh

    greater than salt lake

    greater than yale

    greater than any a-s

to experience it is to die and go to heaven

awesome blend of original and later tonal resources

harrison was by far an organ genius
My colleague from Atlanta has just taken post there as the new director of music and organist. Bruce starts in August. He's quite a nice guy and has talent out the finger tips! Can't wait until a time I get to visit him!
Everyone is excited about Bruce going to N.Y. It's thrilling to have an Atlanta boy take on that big Skinner.[Y]

I was there a year before the fire. Very dark and grey. Even more so at night time. Still the emence space rattled my senses. I'm looking forward to that experience again.

I'msurprised at the light and brightness shown in thephotos, how beautiful.I attended services at St John the Divine for many years while living in NYC. Even before the fire it always seemed dark and gray. Very much looking forward to seeing the cathedral and hearing the organ again.
