Came across an interesting link about an organ I was once arrested for tying to play back in my drunken days.... I love this organ.... it needs to be fixed....
I came across the Phelps website about a year ago and it stated the organ was for sale. A couple months after I noticed that the for sale posting disapeared. When I contacted the webmaster for the Phelps site he stated that the university was interested in getting it working again. ORU doesn't talk about or promote the organ much. Last I knew they don't have much of a program and the administration has had some "issues" in recent years.
The Phelps site is lawrencephelps.com if you are interested in seeing a few pics.
As for Asbury I attended Christmas eve there a couple years ago, with the new organ and building. I don't care to do it again. That's just my personal feeling. At one point there was a flute soloist with accompaniment. I nearly fell out of my seat when I saw that the organist was playing the accompaniment. It sounded like a toy keyboard was being played. The organ didn't always sound that way, I suppose it was some midi sounds that were used. It is a very contemporary church. I think they try to show them selves as a big to do church by having a massive choir, which looks impressive, what looks like a big pipe organ and a rather large bell choir. The room is a large stadium style room with a lot of amplification and large video screens. Perhaps other have had more thorough experience with the organ though.
