So, anyone want to speculate regarding why this phenomena exists? It also makes me wonder how scroll and slot tuning affects the open pipe "cap." The next question follows: Can this affect the voicing of a stop-OR, can the voicing of a stop affect this "cap?"

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
        • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
        • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
        • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

Colin Pyket talks a little bit about the latest theories as to how a pipe makes sound in the articles on his website. The current "in vogue" theory is that the pipe resonates at a frequency, and this causes the air immediately around it to resonate. This air then causes the air not immediately around it to resonate as well. There is an exchange between those two air columns, and the exchange is dependent on a number of factors, with the most important factor being the shape of the pipe.

According to this theory, scrolls and slots increase the harmonics that are communicated into the air column further away, but wouldn't necessarily affect the fundamental pitch.
