Thanks for finding that OCH listing.

"San Francisco’s Exposition Organ is one of the last remaining vestiges from the Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915. Considered a prime example of the art of symphonic organ building, this 40-ton treasure has been heard by hundreds-of-thousands of people and has played a pivotal role in San Francisco’s musical culture for almost 100 years." (Friends of the Exposition Organ)

What a shame that with all of the money in the Bay Area, the City and the Friends of the Exposition Organ could not find a local home for this instrument. After the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, which caused parts of the building interior walls to fall and damage the organ, it was sent back to Austin for restoration. After returning to San Francisco it has been stored rather than being re-installed in Civic Auditorium.

I remember reading about Virgil Fox driving the organ technician crazy with his demands that things be made to work to his satisfaction before his concerts there.
