  • Visiting Pipe Organs in the Amsterdam, NL area

    Hello All!

Not sure if this is the right forum to do this, but was going to visit Amsterdam in the Netherlands next month for a quick weekend. Was wanting to visit Haarlem and Rotterdam, but are there any other locations that I should visit to do some organ "sight-seeing"?

Unfortunately, I won't have enough time to go to Zwolle or other locations outside of where I mentioned above.

    Thanks!

Check with member davidecasteel, as he has been there before and has taken photos of many of the organs in Europe.

Best of luck with your trip, and for my sake, try not to enjoy it too much!😜

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 5 Allens:
    • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DK / ADC-5400 / ADC-6000 (Symphony) / ADC-8000DKC
    • Lowrey Heritage (DSO-1)
    • 11 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 7 Pianos

When in Amsterdam visiting famous pipeorgans, be sure to stop by the Oude Kerk (old church), Nieuwe Kerk (new church) and the Westerkerk.
If enough time left try the Waalse kerk also and there are many others to choose from as well but the ones mentioned above are the most famous.
When in Haarlem search for the St Bavo church with that famous Muller organ.
Holland has many organs worthy of a visit and with actual playtime on those organs included but you will need a month or more.
Have a great trip and let us know how it went.

Perfect. Thank you. The Old and New Church came up on my radar as well, but not the Weterkerk, so thank you for the suggestions. I also will be going to St. Bavo as well as Rotterdam.

I'm planning a trip in a few years to Holland to catch-up with relatives and then spend most of the time in Groningen -- it has a surprising number of historically significant organs including the Schnitgers at Martinikirche and Ludgerkirche. The following is a link to the list of over 500 pipe organs in Groningen from organbase.nl

Various concert series are held in the area and, I believe, Groningen is often included when Pipe Dreams or other such groups plan piper organ tours.

    Good luck!

Yes, I would love to visit that one in particular, but sadly, I only have a weekend, which is why I had to limit my search. I also want to give myself a reason to come back and that Groningen will be on my list! :)

When in Groningen for organ visits be sure to connect with Sietze de Vries, who is a professor of music in that city and also organist at the Martini kerk. Mr. de Vries is known as one of the very best of improvisors, rivaling that of Bach's Choral preludes variations. Look him up on line and check out the church where he lives along with several playable pipe organs.

When it Amsterdam, make sure to check out the Orgelpark: https://www.orgelpark.nl/en/Home

Groningen and the surrounding area is worth a visit of its own.

Plus there is another interesting site in yet another region, the national organ museum in Elburg: https://www.nationaalorgelmuseum.nl/

      Have a good trip!
