  • This year's Christmas Postlude

    hello again,

I thought it interesting to find out what you were playing for Christmas this year.... so if you feel like sharing please do.... :-)

So I'll start...I will be playing Mulet's Carillon Sortie this year... [:|]

I have only two more pages to nail and then I'll be well chuffed..... The middle section is such a killer... I had semiquavers in the left hand because I've got a really weak left hand.. slow is the way forward I guess.... Does anybody else share this problem of having a weak left hand ? how does one 'strengthen' it....

looking forward to reading your postludes......

As long as we are on the topic of Mulet, why not mention the lovely Noël, from the "Esquisses Byzantines"? Even though it is not a Postludeit hassuch a haunting melody I try to play it at Christmas at least every other year. This websitehas a sample of it, though you might have to search a bit to find the right window.

For something completely different (not too difficult, but effective) I recommend the Advent Christmas Suite, by Alfred V. Fedak. It has some interesting arrangements of familiar Christmas melodies. His Postlude on "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" is a relatively easy Toccata that is a crowd-pleaser.
