Oh I hope my mom considers this!

Can anyone tell me about this?

It seems like a fairly standard two manual and pedal American reed organ probably from the early 1900's. Likely needing a mechanical restoration to be playable (ie: a project). I may be wrong, but judging from the pictures, it seems like it might be a mediocre example as these things go.

      That looks really cool!

I've never actually seen a reed Organ that has a pedalboard!

        It sold for 208.50

Sounds like a good deal for the buyer - but not for the seller.

They come up free fairly often. I paid $100 for my Mason And Hamlin. There aren't many people interested in them. Those ones who are, have a hard time time justifying taking on something that big that sounds like an overgrown accordion to most people.

[/quote]I hate to agree with you, but I am one of those that feel that way about Reed Organs. I have never heard one that doesn't actually sound like... Well, an accordian.

I'm waiting for someone to prove me wrong.

Do any of them have a Diapason-like sound to them?

I agree - A reed will never sound like a whistle!

A harmonium, which is a reed organ in which air is blown out through, rather than drawn in through the reeds, can sound less "like an accordion". Here are three videos of the same little instrument. In the first it is hard to imagine that it is a harmonium. The others show more reed quality. The room acoustics probably enhance the sound - you seldom hear a reed organ in a church this large!

Thanks for those nice Harmonium links. I am a big fan of Harmoniums. [:)]

The American reed organ gets a lot of flak but it is an entirely capable instrument, assuming the following:
