  • Wax Repair on an Old Accordion

    Hello ye good people,

I'm hoping to repair the wax on an old accordion I have. The wax isn't in an entirely abysmal shape, but it needs a bit of repair. I've used a soldering iron to repair most of the gaps, but I want to apply some new wax and I'm not sure how to go about it. Any tips or any tools I should get? Thank you!

    Mr. Goodfellow,

I know nothing about repairing accordions though I do dabble at playing them. With that said, you might find the information you need at http://accordionrevival.com/ACCORDION_REPAIR1.php.

    I hope this helps.

      Mr. Goodfellow,

I see your post from May about the same subject. I guess I was hoping someone else would weigh in, as it's a job I've never done. I remember your participation in this thread in the past: https://organforum.com/forums/forum/...-old-accordion. Is that what you're looking for?

Member, andijah (Andrea) also plays accordion and lives in Germany. She may have further information for you regarding a source for more wax. It seems strange you may have lost wax, as it generally just needs to be redistributed when it begins to crack.

      Hope this helps.

Yes, that's the accordion I'm working on. It is a little odd, but it does seem to be missing wax, rather than simply being cracked. In a few places there just doesn't seem to be enough.

to be honest, I haven't needed new wax on my accordions until now, but you can get it quite easily over here:
      https://www.akkordeonshop24.de/en/st...chs-akkordeon/
(I guess this or other shops would also ship internationally)

Alright, thanks! Any idea how much it would be a good idea to get?

Enough to fill the cracks, Mr. Goodfellow. I suspect you're the only one who knows how much is missing. Provide a photo?
