  • Estey Portable Organ

I just bought a box that was once used to move an Estey organ. When I opened the box, low and behold the organ was still in there!

Well, that's my story and Im sticking to it. It appears to be onClick image for larger version

ID:	613924I don't know if this was designated as a chaplain's organ, but the seller and I did manage to drag it out of the basement with some difficulty, sans hand truck or organ jacks. I might guess it weighs somewhere between 100 and 150 pounds.

As you can see, my Kat Kritque has already taken up residence, no doubt to keep my from practicing my lack of skills upon it. I could only attach five photos, but there are a couple more on my profile. It is serial number 426055 and if anyone has a Gellerman's handy you can tell me if a black 38 stamped on it might correctly indicate the year of manufacture. Also, if anyone knows what model this might be, I will try to get it into the ROS catalog after I fix the broken stop and take a few better photos.

That's a beaut! What is the stop lineup? Has it got Vox Jubalante 8' in the treble half? I can't speak for yours, but I have a stamped 38 on my tag too but it is serial number 430891 from November of 1921 according to purchase records.

From left to right: Bass Coupler, Sub Base 16, VoX Jubilante 8, Diapason 8, Dulciana 8, Flute 4, Vox Humana, Forte, Missing (Flute 4?) Dulciana 8, Diapason 8, Vox Jubilante 8, Vox Jubilante 8, Treble Coupler.

Photos didn't upload very well. The case is pretty decent, compared to the few portables I've seen. It plays, but is a bit short winded. So Im hoping I can temporarily improve on that a bit, as well as clear a few plugged reeds and I think there are two stops that need repair in addition to the broken stop rod. I will need to find a Flute 4 sticker for it.

Congratulations on your find! I have to admit, that's the largest portable pump organ I've ever seen too. I too, am curious as to the model. I have an Estey book here I picked up at the Estey Organ Museum in Brattleboro. I'll get back to you if I find anything.

Yep Casey. You made quick work a that. Would these portables not have been assigned a model number, as I find it curious that the ROS listing didn't show one.

When you gonna change yur profile photo. I think you sold that Vocal Lion (wink) shortly after you finished it if Im not mistaken.

Yeah. Another member of the organ museum near me was also interested, I was told when I went to pick it up. Guess it helps to have a fast truck. Or, as someone once put it, The secret to life is....showing up!

Sorry Jim. Well, not too sorry, as you could have gotten there first. Come help me sort the kinks out of it.

Couldn't argue that point, as that organ is a massive undertaking. But by now I figure he must have some three manual M&H under wraps somewhere.
