Pump/Reed Organ.....Where do I start

I am looking for a Pump/Reed organ for a total restoration including cabinet refinish. I find an abundance on Craigslist between New Your City and The Canadian Border. When complete this organ will be in my den. I do not want one of the models that is high in fancy wood build, more like the size or a spinet piano, though I want ornate wood work. Also pre 1900 in age. So that's what I would in-vision for my restoration project. There are so many different manufactures who is good, who is bad, who is easy to work on, who is not.

For 30 years, I did total restorations on Christ Craft Mahogany Speedboats. I am totally at home working with wood and finish.

Please give me some thoughts/opinions on what to look for.

Hello corvette,

Stick with Estey or Mason/Hamlin. Both are very good organs. I would also recommend a chapel organ. These usually have more reeds and features. They will also give you a better challenge than most cottage and parlor organs. If you decide that one already restored is a possibility, check out the classifieds. I am currently advertising a German Hofberg completely restored.
