  • Info and Assistance on Estey Portable Field Organ

Hello - I have what I believe is an Estey 1947 portable field organ. It needs some love and I intend on restoring it. I've spent a lot of time researching the web (and this forum) and learned quite a bit. I still have some unanswered questions.

Both bellows hang loose. I believe there were once external springs attached but I can't find a good source to tell me what I need and how to install the springs.

Much of the outside is covered with a maroon material. What is this? Is this a factory install or a modification?

Where can I find a manual, parts list, restoration video, or anything else that will help me identify what I have, what I'm missing and how it all fits together?

NOTE: Obviously I'm new here. If this post is redundant, please point me in the right direction.

    Thank you!

    Hi,
The springs may be hard to come by, they were a type of torsion spring in a convoluted shape as I seem to recall. The maroon cloth was perhaps salvation army. there was olive drab for army and navy blue as well. (And of course basic black)

      Hi,
Thanks for the reply. You were right, the material is a painted canvas. The frame holding the pedal bellows is blue, which I suspect is the original color. Oddly enough the two bottom side panels have what looks like an oak veneer. I think I've figured out just about everything from pics, posts and other sites. The foot bellows springs are still eluding me. If someone would post a pic, I may be able to mimic them.

I found some pics of the springs and mounting blocks from a 1955 model. The spring is 4mm diameter steel. They are at the hinge end of the feeders.
