  • Mason and Hamlin Action

    Hello,
I have been given a M&H action for parts, it had been electrified in the past and the blower is now torn off. I hooked it up to a blower to test it and am not sure what to do now...
It has a subbass, 8', 4', voix celeste, seraphone, eolian harp and octave coupler, forte and V Humana.
    Action numbers 73 8000 (8010?)
    Can upload photos later.
    Any info on this?
    Thanks!

I purchased some time back a couple of pump organ mostly in dissembled state. Out of the pile I rebuilt two complete organs but was left with two actions and a set of bellows with feeders. After sorting out the bits I managed to assemble a complete M&H action missing two white keys only. The other action was from an old Weaver pumper with 11 stops which I mounted on the bellows with feeders and built it into a discarded electronic organ case, made a pair of treadles and voila! My on design. It works and sounds very good.
The M&H action is there, waiting for a chance to become whole again. So, you have a very sound and well designed action there, maybe ..... or perhaps another M&H fan will take it off your hands. I would have done that in a wink but unfortunately, live on another planet - or just as far away... Would not mind to have the reeds though... and maybe the keys...;-)

If the seraphone is a separate chest at the back, alongside the sub bass, keep the action, it is a very nice one indeed (action 25). If OTOH,the seraphone is above the 4ft set on the main board, it's "only" an action 50. Still a great thing, but more OK IMO to cannibalize for parts, unless you have a 2-row M&H parlor organ and you want to upgrade it to this one.

I believe that the seraphone is the other half of the celeste. Someone has moved the 4' and celeste reeds down half a note...can I use a reed out of another organ to fill the gap if I move them up again?
