We're back on the Internet after three days or so error messages.
The problems began about ten days ago when the server running the web server crashed. Not only does that take down the website, it also prevents me from connecting to the server administration tools to reboot and correct the problem. That means a call to the hosting company's support desk, the creation of support ticket, and a recovery delay of a minimum of 15 or 20 minutes from the time the problem is reported.
Over the next several days the crashes became more frequent and support offered no explanations as to their cause. This past Monday they decided that this was a persistant problem and identified a cause but not a reason. By Tuesday, the server would remain up for only several hours at a time. The support ticket was escalated which I thought meant that the problem would receive greater attention. Just the opposite occurred resulting in longer outages. Since then support made adjustments to help fix and/or identify problem. These tweaks resulted in the Internal Server Error message that you were presented with for the past two days as well as other problems.
Yesterday, I threw in the towel and moved the site to another hosting provider. So here we are again, hopefully with our troubles behind us. The only dark cloud on the horizon is the possibility the outages were caused by an unknown problem with the Forum software. I doubt this, but only time will tell.
Regardless, stuff happens, and there's no way of knowing how your service provider will respond to the challenge when it does. I'm considering solutions that will avoid these long outages under similar circumstances, but costs are a factor.
Thanks to everyone who has expressed their support and appreciation during these problem days.
It's great to be back.
