  • Wiring A-100 to Leslie 3300

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I just acquired a 1963 A-100 and I want to wire it up to run my Leslie 3300, however I absolutely HATE the console kits that Hammond sells. Has anyone wired an A-100 for an 11-pin Leslie without using the 1174 kit? Is it better to go from the preamp or from the power amp? I don't need the reverb channel to go to the Leslie and I don't necessarily need a MEE switch (though it would be nice). Any schematics or diagrams you have would be great, no matter how crude. Thanks!

I suspect you need to perform some tricks to get these modern-day Leslies to even turn on via the 11 pin. But apart from that:

Either connection will do (power amp or preamp). Direct to preamp will be the "B-3" sound. If you take the signal from the power amp you will get more bass, which may or may not sound good to you... I suggest trying both ways!

The extra bass from the power amp would probably be a good thing for me, but is a Main-Ensemble-Echo switch still a possibility if I'm taking signal from/after the power amp? Also, when wiring the 11-pin connection, would the audio signal from the organ need to be on pin 1 or 2?

        From the 3300 service manual;

        Pin 1 Rotary in
Pin 2 Goes to Stationary L out (1/4")
Pin 3 Goes to Stationary R out
        Pin 4 Audio ground
Pin 5 Control Ground (4 & 5 connected to each other internally)
        Pin 6 Power on
        Pin 7 Les-fast
        Pin 8 Les-slow
        Pin 11 +15Vdc out

Grounding Pin 6 powers it up. Grounding either Pin 7 or 8 switches the speeds. You can take a 120Vac relay, put it in the organ connected to switched AC, when powered up, it can ground Pin 6 and turn on the Leslie with the organ.

The Main/Ensemble/Echo switch usually is installed ONLY when you tap signal from after the power amp. While it's certainly possible to hook one up when tapping straight from the preamp to the Leslie, it is a lot trickier.

Is the 3300 service manual available in pdf? If not, can I order it from somewhere?

I took the schematic for the AO-39 and modified it for 11-pin Leslie operation (in place of the current 5-pin plug). I'm not a technician, can anyone tell me if this looks right?

Does the MEE switch need to be grounded?

Do I need resistors between the MEE switch and the 11-pin plug?

              Thanks!

I'm not being allowed to view your attachment to see if it is like mine ( I just registered), but here is my write-up on how I wired my leslie 3300 to my a100:
                http://davyyd.blogspot.com/2010/12/h...slie-3300.html

It worked great for me, and I'd be happy to share anything I learned.
