  • Hammond M101 motor rattling (video)

Hi all, i recently got a m101 and was super happy about it and is the first hammond organ ive ever owned. For a while it worked fine. But then one day it just started rattling.

When I start the motor, the two gears dont lock into place and cause a rattling sound.

Before i had this problem, the main speakers sounded very soft even when i put it on full volume (pedal). The reverb speaker was fine and loud. It was after i had this problem, i shut of the organ and started again and it started making a rattling sound.

Please help. Its my first organ and im dying to buy a leslie speaker and start playing it again
    Heres the video:

Hit both shafts with oil and use a long screw driver to work the mating gear (inside the gen) back and forth until it moves smoothly. You can use WD40 or Liquid wrench if it is really stubborn, following up with generator oil. Both gears should spring back and forth freely. Careful with the screwdriver (or whatever you use), don't mar the gear teeth.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a visual person and have a hard time picturing the use of the screwdriver. I don't understand what you mean by "work on mating gear (assuming it's the one on the back) back and forth".

I was messing with the back gear, trying to put the two gears together and it moved back and forth fine. It's just the two gears teethes don't lock together when I start the motor causing a rattling sound.

Please read the safety procedures before removing the AC power panel cover on the TWG. Unplug the organ from the AC.

Then with utmost care ,and the organ unplugged from AC , clip a lead across the 250 ohm dropping resistor on the panel.
Replug the AC plug and give it a try.
If it starts (and it should) get out the soldering pencil....short out the dropping resistor and button it back up , NOTING this has been done.
Best to have a fresh spring loaded start switch when the resistor is removed from the circuit for obvious reasons.
