  • Has anyone ever tried the Hammond CV?

Hi its me again. I am very grateful for everybodys insights on my previous queries on electones. This time, it's for a hammond.

I am being offered a Hammond CV which will be restored. Now they're asking me what price I can afford. Now is this organ worth buying? And how much do these usually cost? I read that these were originally manufactured in the 40s. I'm still uncertain about the extent of its restoration though. Many thanks!

The organ is definitely worth buying for the right price if you have helpers and space. Cost depends on the condition, location. If it's original condition and the electronics haven't been touched I think $500 would be the top end. Where are you located?

This is 2 generations before the B3. No split vibrato or percussion, but the key click should be fantastic!

Do a forum search on Hammond bv and cv and take some time to read the posts. You should find all the information you need there.

Thank you! I told the dealer that I might be able to afford an organ priced 800 USD or below. The dealer replied and he told me that the price will also depend on the extent of the restoration. I do hope it will only be minor! :) I'm from the Philippines and good used organs are either rare or too expensive. :(

Location is everything. I don't know about the market in the Phils, but here in Sweden you surely won't find a CV for $500 regardless of condition ... a poor one in need of restoration might be available for $1000-$1200 here if one is lucky.

The CV is a very good instrument - nice sound and well built. Go for it!

Let us know if you figure out how to ship an organ cheaply. I wanted to send Enor one last year, but was disappointed to learn that shipping from my location in Canada would be cost-prohibitive.

Where are you located? I visited my boss in Lapu-Lapu (Cebu) two years ago. It took a few days to get used to the heat, but I really enjoyed the country and its people.

What frequency and voltage is your electricity? This will affect the price significantly. If memory serves me correctly, his power was 220V 60Hz. This is good - it means you can buy the organ from the USA and plug it into Philipino power using only a step-down transformer (IMPORTANT).

I sold one for $300 in the US. I had lots of interest, so the price may have been a little low. It did not need restored.

The one I had sounded fabulous with lots of bass and a screaming high end. In the end I chose the A100 for smooth drawbars and percussion.

Well, my internet has been down since for four days, so I have lots of catching up to do.
I loved my CV when it was functional... I bought a C-3 in a road-weary, gigged-out cabinet, and put its guts in the CV's beautiful cabinet (quatrefoils, etc.). Now, the CV and beat-up cabinet sit unassembled in the attic. I can seem to get a Round Tuit... way too many other projects... it needs to be refinished, put back together and sold or donated. I'd hate to see it end up in the dump :( Any suggestions?
                Cheers !
