  • Trek II percussion and vibrato on -V series organs

I have a CV with Trek II percussion installed - I noticed that if vibrato is on, the percussion is affected by it, unlike on a standard -3 series. I saw on other posts that this is to be expected when putting the Trek II percussion in a -V Hammond - is there a way around it? Can you tap into the signal somewhere else and get percussion that never has vibrato? I'm probably going to sell/trade this organ and want it to be as close to a -3 series to get the most money I can out of it. While I'm here, what's the time/effort/money ballpark for putting in smooth drawbars myself? The ratchet ones seem to be a dealbreaker for some buyers.

Also tangentially related, is the chorus/vibrato generator/delay line/circuit etc. from a -V series the same as on a -2 or -3? Or does it mostly sound different from the capacitors being a good 20 years older than the ones on a 60s Hammond?

There really is no good way to get vibrato-free precussion tone with the standard preamp. If you move the percussion "return" later on down the chain, it becomes unaffected by the swell pedal which is even worse than having it vibrato-ed...

By far the easiest (and best, I think) way to achieve vibrato-free TREK percussion on a -V, is upgrading the preamp to an AO-10 (the preamp from the -2 series).

The circuit isn't identical, but very similar. Older caps is one cause of differences, the other one is the slightly shallower chorus due to a different chorus mixing resistor. But in all fairness - this shallow chorus was also present in the first years of the -3 series.

We've tried to no avail. Perc added on a V pre must go through the vibrato.
Before there was an internet I managed to add perc to a CV.
I used the AO42 and AO43 from an L100.Lots of work.
      That added reverb too.

A -2 type AO10 preamp has an extra channel for vibrato.
A vibrato line from a CV should work fine through an AO10.
Just make sure the AO10 has the appropriate matching transformers.
Vibrato line caps will be 'way above' in value if original but a fresh chorus resistor(R44?) will
mask the out of tune-ness of the V settings enough that you can still use the C settings.
Even though my B2 vib line caps are WAY off spec,C2 setting sounds great using a 12K chorus resistor.

Properly cleaned and relubricated ratchet drawbars won't be as sore a selling point as you might think.
The drawbars on my 1937 BCV work great!
