I'm looking for a little guidance with a problem that i'm chasing. I have a Hammond A102 with a 122A leslie through a 8101 connector kit. Sounds great BUT, there is a 60hz hum that can be heard when playing at normal volumes. I recorded the hum and played back through an electronic tuner just to verify and it's right at 60hz, so that's not in question.
I turned the organ on without starting the tone generator, and leaned on some keys, and the hum is very distinct, and it doesn't matter if it's through the organ speakers, or the leslie, and reverb, vibrato, percussion has no effect on it. It does react to volume but other than that, nothing effects it.
I'm assuming that maybe a tube check is in order, as from what i've read, a cap problem would cause a 120hz hum. One of the problems i have is where to get tubes checked ?? Used to be every drug store on the planet had a tube checker, but no more!
Anyone care to weigh in and give some guidance on how to proceed??
It's not a show stopping kind of an issue, but it bugs me. I've done a buss bar job on this, added the leslie, and the organ is nice, and I'd like to just try to put this to bed.
