  • RT-3, Drawbar for lower manual works on pedals, faint on keys

I recently acquired an RT-3 from a church that was closing. Came with Pr-40, leslie 122, and a spare B3 bench with some original Hammond documents from purchase (no B3 though). They didn't want much for it, just wanted it gone. Rented a U-Haul and a few friends and it is now in my living room (can't believe my wife is putting up with it). After playing with it, I noticed that the first drawbar on the first set of lower manual drawbars is working with the pedals. I can hear the drawbar working with the keys, but is incredibly faint. It works with full volume on the pedals. What do you think is going on here?

Thanks to the Organ Forum for great advice on moving organ and speakers properly!! Necklace reverb on PR-40 still working!

There is a somewhat popular modification for the B3/C3/A100 (and it of course works on an RT-3 as well), sometimes referred to as "poor man's Krueger bass". It consists of repurposing one of the lower manual drawbars to handle some of the pedal frequencies, in order to produce a "purer" tone on the pedals - or rather, to give a bit more control over the tonality of the pedals; at the cost of losing a lower manual drawbar.

I suspect this modification has been done to your instrument.

      Thanks for the reply.

I was wondering if this was on purpose as it works as it should with the pedals. With the solo bass stops and the extra drawbar, I certainly have a lot of options when deciding on a bass pedal sound.

Is it a very invasive modification or can it be returned to its original state without much hassle?

Very simple one. Can't find a good description online right now, but I know they exist. Gonna keep on googling for you.

It was deifinitely done on purpose. When I looked into the back, the wire from the back of the 1st drawbar for the lower manual went to the pedals instead of the keys. The wire that would have went from the drawbar to the keys was neatly coiled up. I believe it has always been in a church. I wonder why someone would have done that and if that is a popular retrofit in churches.
