Hello, I have just gotten my grandpa's old Hammond Colonnade and I am hoping to repair it and play it. I know it's not one of the classic tonewheel Hammonds but rather an LSI and that they typically grenade themselves with issues but I would still like to repair it. I am posting this a couple of weeks before I am home from college so I won't be able to start working on it until then.
I have a "beginners" knowledge of electronics and basic components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, etc, and their functions. I am comfortable with soldering but my old "cheap" solder iron is probably not up to this task so any recommendations are appreciated. I am also very familiar with DVMs and how to use them.
I have acquired the schematics (shoutout to tuscondave)
The three biggest issues with the organ that I would like to get taken care of first are:
#1 On the lower keyboard, the "C2" note constantly plays, the note stops when all drawbars for the lower are pushed in. I would like to fix this first but have very little idea as to where to start. I have lifted the keyboard and the contacts underneath are not stuck.
#2 The Leslie appears to have "worn" itself out and does not stay level and so the foam scrapes against the plywood creating a scraping sound. I have thought about disassembling the Leslie and using spray foam to "reconstruct" the worn-out center. Would this work or is there a better solution?
#3 The piano "stop" (I'm not sure if that's what it is called feel free to correct me). does not turn off and so the upper keyboard is constantly in "piano". There is a connector that I unplugged that shut the piano off as a temp fix for now but I would eventually like to fix that but it's least on the list.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance -William
