  • Moving C3 around the room -- lock the tone generator?

Hi. I am a complete newb when it comes to operating a Hammond organ. I'm getting a 1959 C3 delivered to my house in about a week, so wanted to ask a few question to avoid messing it up.

    1. I watched videos how to lock down and unlock the tone generator. Do I need to lock it down if I decide to move the organ to the other side of the room, or turn it around? Or is it purely for moving it on a truck?
    2. And a preference question: do you like the organ facing the wall or the back of it next to the wall? I am leaning towards the latter, as I want to be able to watch TV while playing, and watch various videos.
    3. Is the back of the organ easy to get on/take off? Or is there some special set of screws? I understand I need to get it off to connect the Leslie cable and power cable.

    thanks!

No, you don't need to lock the TG when moving it around the room.

Personally, I prefer having the bench & pedals against the wall and facing out into the room. This also makes accessing the preamp and other internals easier if needed.

This positioning seems very sensible where easy access is required to the internals. However, this configuration generally takes up more floor area in the room.

If you are fortunate enough to have a large room, that is great. I wish I could position my modest L-122 like that for easy access, but I am in the UK and floor area is usually at a premium compared with residences in the States.

Mine is in an A100 case with full-sized pedals and bench, so it's pretty much the same floor area whichever way you turn it. With the short pedals on the L-122, it's different.
