  • Lowrey C500 To Leslie 715/515?

    Happy New Year Folks:
I know I've spent a lot of time posting questions about potential multi channel Lesie purchases and I finally bought a Leslie 715/515 in very good condition. So far, it's only been hooked up to a Yamaha 415i as I need another cable to connect the Yamaha FS 500. It sounds very full range and loud, but having been raised on a tube 145, it's awfully clean sounding even at crippling volumes.
I hoped that the Leslie 715/515 would be a good pair up with the Lowrey C500 but now I'm finding that none of the interface kits are available for it anymore. Does anyone know of a work around for this kit, or possibly have a spare #7930 interface kit?
I'm sure now that I've committed to the 715, there will be dozens of 720s and other multichannel leslies showing up on the market. Not too much information on the 715 on this forum or out there on the web. Are there other 715 owners on this list? Any tips?
    Thanks,
    Paul T

I'd imagine a 715/515 would sound great on a C500! IIRC, Ian over in Australia has a C500 hooked up to a 720/540. That's an 11-pin hookup so what he's done should work for you. I'm sure he'll join in here. If not, a PM would get some details. Here's a link to the schematics of what seems to be a generic kit for connecting a 4 channel combo to a 3 or 4 channel organ. (haven't had time to go through the schematics fully) http://www.fishorgans.com/leslie_kits/007953_kit.pdf

Might be usefeul if you have to make up your own kit

I guess you have the 145 on the GAK25H-1 (or maybe the L?), but with a bit of creativity, I think the 715/515 could work here as well.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

      G'day Paul,

As Andy's already mentioned, I've got a C500 hooked up to Leslie 720/540 cabs. Doing so with your 715/515 is identical to what I've done. And yep, you need an 11 pin Leslie "Y" adaptor cable (to connect the 2 cabs in series) & either 7930 or the current 1174 fitting kit. 1174 allows for connection of any 11 pin Leslie from 1 to 4 channels to most analog organs with internal speakers and allows for channel mixing. The bad news is that last time I looked 1174 retailed for just over USD$500.

Good luck with the project, and be assured you'll end up with a mighty sound.

      Cheers,
      Ian

Thanks for the replies. I've been having a blast with playing the Yammy FS 500 routed through the 715, or at least a couple channels of the Yamaha going through the 715. It sounds so much better than the electronic fake Leslie and I always thought that sounded pretty good on the FS 500. The stop speed is great and being able to control everything from the Yamaha is fantastic.
My 145 has been exclusively connected to the GAK 25h-1 though I meant to share it between the Hammond L102 and the GAK, but I find the GAK so much more fun to play than the Hammond that the 102 sees very little use these days. At the moment, the only 11 pin cable I've got is the "Y" adapter which means I have to move organs and Leslies around to connect anything.
I'd bet that the C500 would sound great through both the 715/515 or through a bunch of 145s, one for each channel.
        Thanks,
