  • Service Manual and Resources for Yamaha Electone 205D

Well- I successfully got my grandmas Electone 205D. I am fiddling and finding things that either don’t work or that do work and I’m just not using the proper settings. Either way I’d like to open her up and see what fixes/maintenance can be done DIY. I know at the very least it hasn’t been serviced in 20-30 years and at minimum needs some cleaning.

I haven’t been able to find the service manual and would love to know if anyone knows somewhere I can find it, or a digitized version. I checked a site that was listed here (elektrotanya) and either I didn’t look in the right place or they don’t have it. Additionally I’ve trolled eBay and found nothing. In addition, I’d love to hear your advice to a first time organ owner looking to do home maintenance whether it be YouTube channels, Subreddits, books, websites, or your own personal advice!

    thanks!

The 205 may well have had a different model number in other parts of the world. I can't find the equivalent at the moment.

The most common issue I've come across with organs in this series (PASS models, from the late 70s to early 80s) has been contact problems. Not in the keys or the 'tone levers' but in the push buttons. Usual contact cleaner to use is Caig De-Oxit D5. Don't use that on any sliders, you must use De-Oxit F5 Fader Lube instead.

The owner's manual is available on line, so download that, and familiarise yourself with how the organ works. That will rule out 'user error'! :)
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

KristinH, Welcome to the Forum. With only rare exceptions all Electone model numbers start with two or three letters. The exceptions I can think of right offhand are the 305, 415, and 6000 models. I can not find a 205D on the pretty comprehensive listing at this site : http://www.ggbmusic.com/museum/indexbf47.html?i=172 Perhaps you don't have the model number correct ?

Anyhow, Andy is correct about dirty contacts being a fairly common issue with older Yamahas, particularly ones that have sat unplayed for some time. The contacts I see most often causing issues on these though are the ones in the rocker switches that are mounted in the key-cheeks. To access those, you will need to open up the console. On those I normally use alcohol to clean them, rather than expensive De-Oxit, because you can use a lot, and I'm sorta frugal. That said, for really dirty contacts Nothing beats De-Oxit.

        Larry,

I'm sure that 205 is a Yamaha model number. I still have a Yamaha 115D from 1982 that I learned. Based on the registration manual, I recall a 105 (just three stops on the upper manual). I'm sure there was a 205 in the manual.

Oh, I just did a quick search and found a 205D on *bay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/265494909280. It's similar to my 115D with a few more stops, 44-note manuals (mine has 37), and symphonic chorus/Leslie.

        Later,
        Allen

I can supply the overall circuit diagrams. Yamaha does not have the service manual. As Andy said, get the owner's manual and make sure there is really a problem. The organ contains static sensitive parts that are no longer available and should not be opened unless necessary.
