  • Leslie 2 speed motor: Changing a lower unit to upper or vice versa

    Hi everyone

I bought a 2 speed motor stack from a lower rotor. But I want to use this for the treble rotor. Apart from changing the pulley and the mounting plate and rotate the whole unit about 180° what else do I have to do? There must be something with the spring on the axis of the slow motor. The position of it has to be changed if I understand it accurately. Who can give me precise information about modification. Any help is appreciated.

      Martin,
To answer your questions in order: Yes, no, no. You were very clear. Be patient....sometimes it takes a few days to get a response. I know nothing about Leslies, so I'm not able to help. From the nature of your question(s), I am sure someone out there has answers for you, it will just take time. That said, sometimes no one knows the answer, so prepare yourself for that. But there are enough Leslie hobbyists on this forum where someone out there should have the answers you seek. :-)

I've been told that the spring on the lower motor works in a different direction on an upper and on a lower. One of these days I'll take a good look at what I have to confirm.
I know it's been a good practice session when I pause for a quick break, return and the room has a faint odor of Hammond oil in the air that only occurs when the console has been running for hours & hours.

Thanks to you all. The drawing of benetonelectronics helped me very much. It shows that the springs on the upper and on the lower unit are in different positions. While the one on the upper serves as a kind of damper when the slow motor releases and falls down, the one on the lower supports the slow motor to release by pushing it upwards. That's how I understand the description on the Tonewheel General Hospital. Am I right?

try and use the same spring, i tried dozens and did get a pen spring to work, I ended up flipping it back though. Must be very fine.
You may get away with stretching it.
                only one spring required.
Flip the small motor bolts 180 degrees so you can test without pulling apart the upper part and test by just removing the nuts. Search for my thread under jdoc gotta run

keep track of the washers and bits, and no 2 motors adjust the same, just tinker, I have 4 working 100% now.

search my poor threads on reversing direction if you have to, it's easy as pie!
