    Hello all!

I'm brand new to the forum, and a new owner of two leslie speakers! I recently picked up a 11 pin 615 with a Hammond organ, and a 9 pin 710 with a Lowrey for free from someone at my parents church, all of which look almost brand new on the outside! My question is about the 615: while testing it out, the compression driver was silent, even though the horn was spinning, and then the 5amp 250v slo blow fuse popped after about 2 minutes of play at about half volume. When opening the mid panel I noticed that there was a resister between the speaker wire and the compression driver... it was disconnected, likely from being hauled up stairs and bouncing around in the trailer... but it doesn't seem like it should be there to begin with. It was loosely twisted around the speaker terminal, and came apart where it had previously been attached with just electrical tape to the wire clip. Is this something I should just remove, or did all 615s have this? I've never seen this on other models... AND, the back panel was installed backwards (labels facing inside the cabinet) , suggesting that maybe someone unqualified had been tampering with the cabinet. I'm curious, what might this resistor's purpose be, and would either leaving or removing it possibly damage the system?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

That is not a resistor. It looks like a 2.2uf 250volt film capacitor. The triangle logo is Matsushita brand.
Maybe someone was experimenting with a noise filter, or a crossover idea, and just left is there?

Ah ok, I suppose I could have looked that up haha. Hmmm... now I'm even more curious! It doesn't look like anything else has been modified or tampered with, but it's hard to be sure. I haven't been able to track down a user manual or schematics specifically for the 615, they're somewhat rare, apparently.

So, from what I can tell, after trying it with and without the capacitor, it seems to dull the sound coming from the compression driver. I'm thinking the old guy who owned these may have put that in so it would be easier on his hearing aid haha. All is well!
