  • Theatre Organ Repair or Look for another

Against the advice of some I purchased a Baldwin 235 theatre organ and paid $600; spent another $125 for movers and about $500 for two reconditioned speakers.. including the technican. About a month ago it would make sounds when the instrument was turned on and then would play but presently will not make any sound at all. Arkansas tells me that probably copper has leached and cost of the part only for $325 or $1000 for new board.

I am just beginning and liked the idea of the theatre style since in my view it was more adaptable to popular and church music while not being the best for either and I still am of that opinion.

Am interested in comments from those of you more in the know. If I spend $1250 what can I expect the next repair to encompass"

    thanks

I believe that it is true that a theatre organ is more versatile than a classical organ. A classical organ is designed to produce an ensemble of diapason tone with a few other stops added for color. A theatre organ has a wide range of tone colors and is designed to allow the player to mix and match these tones in any fashion desired. It can simulate a classical organ and can be used to play in an orchestral style as well. Classical music and popular music work equally well.
