The lacquered finish on a zinc pipe has been damaged. The pipe has the typical gray finish which develops over many years. In one spot, about the size of a bandage, it has been worn away and the zinc looks nearly new. Is there any way to restore the old look short of waiting 20+ years? Is anyone awre of a chemical reaction which can age the zinc?

I did a web search on "aging zinc" and found this: https://www.finishing.com/314/86.shtml. There were other links, so you might try the same search.
