  • Beautiful Hammond C-2 and JP-20 Cabinet -- Value?!

    Hi gang!

I've got an absolutely gorgeous Hammond C-2 and JP-20 tone cabinet that I have for sale. I've been trying to do some homework online to find out the value on these, and I find a sweeping range all over the place, and can't really pin down a price to offer that seems fair. A friend of mine who is an organ player suggested that I ask $2,000 given the condition that it is in, but I don't know if that is fair or not.

It comes with the bench, pedals, cables, lamp for footpedals, and music stand lamp. It's in great shape and has a nice growl / overdrive to it.

This organ is available for sale (once I figure out the right price!) in Hollywood, CA.

Here are some pics, I have more available if necessary:

Hi Nick, that's a beauty! Just FYI the tone cabinet will be a "JR-20" (not JP). I'm not familiar with the market out in CA, but back East here $2000 is probably overly optimistic, even for a well-preserved speciment like this C-2. As a package, you might consider asking $1000 and then considering reasonable offers. By way of comparison, a nice Hammond CV in similar condition just sold on Ebay for $450. (Model CV is very similar to C2, the only difference being the C2 adds one feature, split vibrato controls.)

But again, the market out your way might vary somewhat - hopefully someone closer to you will chime in here directly. It may well be that the LA market could be considerably higher. Good luck!

Thank you for taking the time to check this out and get back to me, I greatly appreciate it! Also, thank you for the correction on the correct model number for the tone cab. I figured that around a grand OBO might be more reasonable. I know that most people who inquire about this organ just want to know if it has percussion, and then they get very disinterested when I tell them that it doesn't. Which is surprising considering the Trek II percussion kit sounds better and has more variety to it than the originals do anyhow. It's cheap and simple to do as well. I'm actually heavily considering ditching my A-100 and keeping this C-2, put $200 into a Trek II and have a better looking AND sounding organ than my A-100 will ever be :)

I agree with your last sentense...add the Trek II yourself and keep the C2....I just do not care for the Hammonds with INTERNAL speakers. I do not like the sound coming up thru your legs as you play.

I agree on the 1k being the price it MIGHT fetch. You can try ebaying it and if it is in perfect condition and there is a motivated buyer near you it might sell for more but very doubtful in my opinion.

"Church" model hammonds just don't have much value. The ONLY hammond that really sells well is the B3. Not B2's, not BV's, not RT3's, not anything else...exclusively B3's.

That is just the way it is, and will always be, I think mainly because of the name "cache".

The nice thing about that is the true Hammond purest can get a better Hammond sound (adding Trek) on a B2 or CV etc and spend a fraction of what they would have to on a B3.

The B3 Hammond is the ONLY Hammond model I have almost no interest in obtaining! (I have a RT3, D152, A, BA, CV, D, and E....as well as a M3 & S6. The ONLY other Hammond I want someday is one of those G100's :)

That is one nice looking organ....

I'd ditch the A and get that if I could too....

I too agree that I'm not too crazy about the sound coming from the organ... it fights what the Leslie is trying to do. I disabled the internal speakers on my A-100, and have it going strictly through the Leslie, which is an improvement. I thought that the A-100 was a great looking organ when I first got it, but sitting next to this C-2 it looks less sexy. Decisions decisions...

I think the market might be higher on an A-100, if you want to get rid of one organ, you'd probably be further ahead to sell one of your A-100s and add the percussion to the C2. It's quite beautiful.
