  • Trek SSP-3

I am having some problems with my AO-28 preamp and am considering buying the Trek SSP-3 of my friend in the UK. Can anyone advise if I can use this preamp on a US Hammond? Aside from the difference in line voltage, are there other issues to consider? Thanks.

There shouldn't be problems apart from line voltage. I just swapped my AO-28 for an SSP-3A. One thing I have realised though was that the boards in the SSP can vary. For example mine has instrument level fx loop, vol pedal and reverb but I want to add the BTC-2A level controls and can't just plug them in. I need to add a bit more to the board to do this as it was sold to go with only the other options. Just bear this in mind.

    Cheers

    Dave

Hi Dave. Do you have a schematic and/or installation instructions of the Trek preamp? Will an ordinary step-up transformer suffice?

Yes I do. My SSP was second hand and someone I know was rehoming a chop in a C3 cabinet and the owner wanted to go back to an AO-28 so my they straight swapped me the full SSP package for my AO-28! I got pdf copies of the installation manual for the A100 version of the SSP (told you there were lots of variants) but it is obvious which bits apply to your own model I also have pdf copies of the schematics with the Bob Schleicher mods. PM me an email address and I'll forward them to you.

Regarding line voltage, there are two mains transformers inside the preamp. You could contact Mike at TrekII and see if he will sell you 120VAC replacement ones. He was very helpful when I sent him the serial number of mine and was able to tell me it was a B3/C3 model from 2006.

                Cheers

ME! I'm such a bitchen rocker the organ just couldn't keep up and it just went into flames when I laid down a rippin riff!

A lot of that is ~fingernail smoke~ from the out and out flamin' bad-ass-rockin' I do during any given jam.

(Excuse me, my nose has grown to out of proportion dimensions again and must be trimmed down before I can type any longer)

                  :)

Honestly? If I remember correctly it's Emerson's ... and not part of some pre-scripted theatrics or a ~prop~. Dang thing just went up!

This one (attached) is from some ex-heavy metal dude named Paul Gilbert from his album "Burning organ".

Hijack complete .... just having a bit of fun. :)
