  • Old Great Western Reed Organ

I have an old Great Western Reed organ that my father gave to my mother as an anniversary gift in the mid 1940's. The last time I checked, about 8-9 years ago, it still seemed to work well. I'd really like it to go to someone who would appreciate it. But I also have no idea of it's value and would prefer not to just give it away. Any general estimate of value would be appreciated. And of course, if you knew of someone who could give it a good home, that information would be appreciated also. Thank you!

    rksmith618,

It's probably worth what someone will pay. Check *Bay to see what others are asking for similar organs, or filter your search for those that sold, and the price they sold for.

If you provide your location, you'd have better luck finding someone who may be interested in taking it. Keep in mind, though, the Forum has a Classifieds section, and you can click on Classifieds at the top of the page and post your organ there.

Hope this helps. Welcome to the Forum.

Hi. You can find out if it is playable by softly pumping the pedals - treadle-type, IE, one pushing in with the other coming out, then reversing -- and pulling out the knobs, or stops, (softly - they made be stuck) while pushing down some keys. Knobs on the left go to the lower keys, while knobs on the right go to the higher keys. This way you can least tell a prospective owner if the organ sounds.

I bought a similar organ, but with the top, for $100 earlier this year, and both the seller and I thought it was a fair price.
